Lucille Scott of Little Duck Forge 2013

 

I am Lucille Scott, after teaching in schools for 16 years I saw a couple of blacksmiths demonstrating at a show and remembered that I had always planned to work as a blacksmith! I immediately sacked myself (I was head of the department) and took on a part time job in the same department (one that had always been too small and had always been a pain to fill). Next I enrolled at Holme Lacy Rural Crafts Center and spent a wonderful year doing my basic training as a blacksmith. On my return I started my business and worked part time as a blacksmith whilst still teaching in school. Soon combining the two became impossible and the joy of being able to create art that the public are willing to buy resulted in me turning to the forge full time. Here I am in my happy place, surrounded by an ever increasing range of toys (known by some as tools), what isn’t there to like about hot metal…..

Since 2016 I started to do a lot of collaborative work with other artists, there is now quite a team behind the making of any one of our sculptures. Here they are in glorious sunshine:
